Why Winter Tyres ?
Driving in winter is always more demanding than at other times; whether the road is covered with snow, icy or simply wet, there is always less grip than in summer.
Below 7°C, the performance of summer tyres falls away and you are advised to fit your vehicle with winter tyres.
Winter tyres have a specific profile designed for water removal; the winter tyre reduces the risk of aquaplaning. It has much better grip and excellent mobility due to its tread pattern which is deeper than on an equivalent summer tyre. The winter tyre’s tread pattern contains many more lateral grooves or sipes than a summer tyre which is also good for grip in snow. The winter tyre is made of a special silica rubber mix, which is specially formulated to give optimum performance in lower winter temperatures and will give better braking.
Much more than a snow tyre, the winter tyre is in fact designed for use in all winter conditions:
On all types of surface: on roads covered with snow, slightly or very icy, simply damp or extremely wet, in deep water and on cold, dry roads.
In all atmospheric conditions encountered in winter: drizzle or heavy rain, damp or very dry and cold at very low temperatures.
